A few weeks ago a morning dove bird couple decided to build a nest outside my front door. Mind you this nest was made out of flowers from my flower pots. As the weeks went by I learned a lot about the morning dove from reading. It turns out that everything I read was very accurate. They lay two eggs, the male sits on the nest during the day and the female sits on it at night. Once the eggs hatch and the babies get to big the parents come by just to feed them. And before you know it the babies get just the right size to fly enough to land on the ground safely. They are the type of bird that likes nesting on the ground or rocks just to hang out and rest or sleep.
I smile every time I think about the first morning I opened the front door and saw just one black eye. I said to myself hmmmmm, mommy just has one bird. So I start taking tons of pictures day after day. Now it's week two and I see yet another black eye. Yes! There we're two babies and by this time I'm really excited! At the end of week two on Aug 27th the two kids flew from the nest to a chair outside my front door and slept there all night. The next morning they were gone and neither the parents or the kids have returned.
I miss them a lot and I will leave the nest in hopes that maybe they will return.
I have lots of pictures to keep the memories a live.
